VCDM 475 Weekly Production Report 5 - Character Inspiration Recap: Dr. Lou meets Giancarlo Esposito!
The research for my film has consisted of diving deeper into the story I created and learning how I can further enhance my concept and how my characters interact in my movie. Since the story entirely consists of their interactions, I found it essential to research how to establish the proper mood and atmosphere to enhance their scenes. For Doug Reeves, I found creating a college student was ideal for this concept since it gave me much freedom in shaping him, especially when considering casting actors. My second form of research was learning more about how different forms of time perception can affect someone's mental state—likewise, watching films or animations that dealt with time or even hypnosis. For the main prop of the film, I envisioned Dr. Lou using a simple stopwatch and researched photo references for drawing out my design. Finally, while writing the script, I found myself immensely intrigued by the performance of Giancarlo Esposito, an actor whose performance I remember well in the television series Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, The Boys, and as the main villain for Ubisoft's Far Cry 6 video game. Giancarlo Esposito always carries a mysterious aura and demeanor that resonated well with the direction I sought to create for my main character's persona.
